Greetings!
Our department – the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) at Indiana University – is undertaking a major international campaign to invite applications to our seven multidisciplinary MA and PhD degree programs. We would be grateful if you would please share the information below with your East Asia-focused faculty colleagues, as well as any of your undergraduates currently considering graduate school in East Asian Studies.
The EALC Department is housed within Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global & International Studies (HLS) –one of the largest international affairs and area studies schools in the United States and a leader in the study of the languages, cultures, and diverse perspectives shaping our world. Both within and beyond the classroom, HLS is also home to a vibrant and stimulating intellectual life—including various China-, Japan-, Korea-, and Taiwan-focused speaker series, manuscript workshops, and cultural events.
Our large and multidisciplinary East Asia faculty teach on a wide array of topics, including business, history, international affairs, language pedagogy, linguistics, literature, politics, pop culture, and society—to name but a few areas of focus. Our internationally-renowned language programs also offer more advanced classes in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean than are available at most other U.S. colleges and universities. In addition to a relatively low cost-of-living in Bloomington, a lovely Midwestern university town, many of our graduate students also qualify for generous funding packages.
Please take a moment to read about our graduate programs, and to share this message with your networks. EALC is now accepting applications for our:
MA in East Asian Studies (EAS)
Our most flexible degree, available either as a stand-alone, terminal degree or as part of a “dual degree” with two of IU’s internationally-renowned professional schools:
MA in East Asian Studies and MBA/Master of Business Administration (Kelley School of Business)
MA in East Asian Studies and MPA/Master of Public Affairs (O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, formerly “SPEA”)
MA in Chinese or Japanese
MA in Language Pedagogy (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean)
PhD in Chinese or Japanese
Please send any interested students our way. For more information they can check out our website or email HLSAdmit@IU.edu for more details.
